Robert, by the grace of God bishop of St Andrews, to all sons of holy mother Church, Greeting and Episcopal Blessing: Let those who are to come as well as those who are present know that I have granted, and made firm by the protecion of the present written deed, to Dom Robert, the first prior of the church of St Andrews and to his successors, the office of prior of the canons serving God in the church of the blessed Andrew, and their blessing, and their due profession of obedience. Nevertheless we have also granted to the brethren of the same place the free election of a prior, so that whomever the whole chapter, or its wiser part, agrees upon, shall be raised to rule them, and as subjects they should observe due profession of obedience to him. With these assisting as witnesses: William the bishop of Moray, Osbert the abbot of Jedburgh, Matthew the archdeacon, Thorald the archdeacon, Robert the prior of Restenneth, Aiulf the dean, Master Andrew, John the bishop's chancellor, Master Thomas, Master Herbert.
