To all who shall view or hear this writing, William de Vescy sends greeting in the Lord. Know me to have allowed and by this my present charter to have made firm the gift that Walter son of Alan has made to God and Blessed Mary at Melrose and the monks serving God in that place; that is of the whole land that the same Walter held of me in Mow, with all its pertinents, as the charter of Walter himself which they have thereupon more fully bears witness; for the same monks to have and to hold for ever, in free, pure, and everlasting alms, as freely and quitely as one can be given any alms freely or quitely within the regio of Scotia. As testimony of this matter I have strengthened the present document by the application of my seal. With these witnesses: William de Vescy my brother, John of Lexington, Rainer the German, knights; Simon of Horsley, Robert of Airth, Robert de Valle.
